[Guide] How to play Bless on the Korean client

To get the Bless experience at its fullest, one should consider playing it on the original Korean client. However, this isn’t exactly a simple ordeal. This guide will go through the necessary steps to get into the game in order.

Section 1. Downloading the game

To download the game, head on over to the official Korean site for Bless, http://bless.pmang.com/ . If the browser you’re using is Google Chrome, you can use its built in translation tool to help you navigate the site easier. You can find the Translate this page button at the right end of your address bar, next to the Bookmark this page button. On the Bless website, go to the Download > Game client section, as shown below.

On the downloads page, you’ll see two big buttons, and clicking either will download DirectDL.exe, which will be used to download the game’s installation files. The blue button is labeled “High speed downloads”, while the red one reads “General downloads”. There doesn’t seem to be any difference in their download speeds though, so you may use either.  Start DirectDL.exe, and set the directory you’d like it to place the downloaded files. The installation files will come in 10 .bin files and an .exe, which is the actual installer. These files are about 18.9GB in size, so the download may be slow, depending on your location and connection speed. If the download gets stuck, don’t worry – you can just close the downloader, and upon restart, the download will resume from just where you left it. In the downloader, the upper bar represents the progress of the individual file currently being downloaded, and the lower bar represents overall progress. Once the download has finished, click on the bl_full_2016120711.exe, which will start the installation. Accept to the terms of service as shown below, and begin the installation.

Section 2. Setting up a VPN

As the client is region locked to users in Korea only, you will need to connect to a Korean VPN (virtual private network), to appear as you were connecting from Korea. There are loads of different VPN providers available, though most of them require a subscription. Many Bless players use a service called SoftEther, which you can download here: https://www.softether.org/5-download The service is completely free, so use it at your own discretion. Please refer to this guide on how to install and use SoftEtherhttp://www.vpngate.net/en/howto_softether.aspx

Section 3. Acquiring an account

Creating a game account for Korean Bless isn’t as simple as registering it on the website. To register, one would need a Korean phone subscription, which is sadly unavailable to anyone outside of Korea. The only way for non-Korean players to acquire an account is to buy one from a third-party provider. Multiple companies are selling these accounts, but by far the cheapest are available at https://www.seagm.com/ .

The process of purchasing one is relatively simple – just register on the site, complete the purchase, and check your e-mail. You should have received an order confirmation, which tells you to contact their customer service via the live chat on their website. Open up a discussion, provide them with the information required, and you’ll receive your game account details in your SeaGM profile. It’s strongly recommended to save this information, for example, by taking a screenshot of it. Next, log in to the official Bless website, by clicking the link shown below. It’s also a good idea to save the login info in your browser.

Section 4. Installing an English patch

If you don’t speak Korean (which I assume you don’t since you’re reading this guide), you might want to install an English patch to more easily navigate your way in the game. There are multiple patches circulating the internet, all created by fans of the game. As such, they may contain errors and untranslated parts, so use them at your own discretion.

The latest patch can be downloaded from this link: https://www.mediafire.com/?ud4nw8pma4ve3p2 To install this patch, download and extract the .rar file. Copy the files from the folder labeled USE TO LAUNCH, and paste them to the localization folder of Bless, usually found in X:\Neowiz\Pmang\Bless\BLGame\Localization\KOR\ (where X represents the disk the game is installed on). Overwrite the files in the folder, and proceed to the next step, where the installation of the English patch will be finalized. Note that you have to repeat this process whenever the game gets an update.

Section 5. Launching the game

Once you’ve logged in, it’s time to launch the game itself. If you’ve played other MMOs, you might be accustomed to a portal-like launcher coming with the game. This isn’t the case with the Korean Bless however, and the launching is done directly from their website, by clicking the big red and blue button shown here. Before doing that however, you’ll need to connect to the VPN you set up in a previous step. Please refer to this guide on how to connect to a VPN: http://www.vpngate.net/en/howto_softether.aspx . The important thing here is that you choose a Korean VPN. If connecting to a VPN fails at first, try another, as there should be multiple Korean VPN connections available. An important thing to note about the VPN is that you don’t need the VPN to actually play the game, only to launch it. Essentially what this means is that you need to connect to the VPN only prior to clicking the launch button on the Bless website. Once you see the Bless splash screen (as shown below), you should disconnect from your VPN. This way, you can rely on your own connection instead of the potentially unstable VPN when you’re in the game.

The first time you attempt to launch the game, it’ll need to download updates. The launcher looks identical to the downloader, and whenever it’s downloading updates, the lower bar seems to be stuck at 25%. In the launcher, if you check the box above the progress bars, the game will launch automatically once the updates are complete. Uncheck this box for now, as the English patch files need to be applied during this step. Again, go back to the English patch files extracted in the last step, and this time, copy the files from English patch/KOR/ , and paste them into the same directory as you did in the previous step, and overwrite. Now you’re ready to launch the game, so click the red button at the bottom the launcher window, once the updates have been downloaded.

Section 6. Anomalies

A common issue among western players is the game not launching after the updates are done. The launcher opens normally, and once completing the updates and filecheck, the launcher just seems to disappear without initializing the game. There’s a fix for this, however – a technique dubbed “force launch”. To perform a force launch, go to X:\Program Data\Neowiz\Pmang\Launcher\ , and open launcher.exe. This will give you a garbled error message pop up. Do not click OK on it, just ignore it and leave it open in the background, as shown below. Note that Program Data is hidden by default, so you may need to change the folder options of your Windows File Explorer so that it displays hidden files by default. To do this, click File in the upper left corner of any File Explorer window, and select Change folder and search options. In the View tab, select Show hidden files, folders, or drives under Hidden files and folders.

Now, go to the website and attempt to launch the game as normal. Once the Bless splash screen pops up, you can click OK on the error message produced by the launcher.exe, and disconnect from your VPN as well. This should launch the game as normal.

That’s it! The long and arduous task of getting Bless KR running is complete. Now go and enjoy the game. Should you encounter any errors during any of the steps described above, drop by the forums to post your questions.
